The purpose of the role is to provide expertise and leadership in research governance and study management. This role will advise and support the research department as well as the wider organisation to work efficiently and effectively and provide a high quality, timely and customer-focussed research service both internally and externally. Another key element will focus on the development and maintenance of a well-motivated, well trained, and high performing team.
Effective and efficient operational delivery of research governance, sponsorship of studies and study set up processes.
Ensure provision of high quality, customer-focussed support and services for researchers across the Trust, and with external partners including other academic centres, NHS trusts, commercial research organisations and research networks.
This role involves having a thorough knowledge of research governance systems and requirements, healthcare research regulation, experience of working within research organisations, and a sound understanding of administrative procedures. A first degree or research equivalent experience is essential, preferably in a science/medicine environment. The ability to prioritise conflicting tasks and meet operational deadlines is essential, together with proven communication skills and experience of database systems, ideally the EDGE LPMS system.
As an excellent communicator, you will use your coordination and management skills to raise awareness of policies and procedures to ensure the trust’s adherence to regulations applicable to research. You will need to have excellent written, presentation and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate at a variety of levels including senior managers.
This is a hybrid role that will be split between working between Beech House in Maidstone, and also from home.

Essential criteria
- Educated to Master’s degree level in a relevant area or equivalent experience in research governance and the conduct of research
- Demonstrable experience of working in a research environment
- Detailed knowledge of Good Clinical Practice
- Specialist knowledge of research processes
Desirable criteria
- Project Management Training or Qualification
- Further formal study of research processes, design or methods in health care or social care settings
- Experience of delivering training to healthcare or research professionals
- An understanding of the NHS R&D funding system
