Associate Professor within Public Health – Health Promotion and Prevention

The Department of Public Health at the Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in the field of Public Health as per 1 February 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a permanent, full-time position.

As Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, you will be part of an ambitious and internationally recognised department, where we work together to promote public health through research into prevention, treatment, healthcare, and alleviation of disease. We collaborate nationally and internationally, and we share our knowledge with citizens, decision-makers, business and industry, practitioners and other researchers.

Your job responsibilities

As Associate Professor within Public Health you will contribute to the department’s research and teaching environment and to the faculty’s overall research strategy. You will contribute to the development of the department both independently and in collaboration with others via your research of high international quality. Your teaching is of high academic and didactic standard. You possess excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network that you can use in contributions to the academic development of Aarhus University and its profile both nationally and internationally. 

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Conducting research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals.
  • Communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • Contribution to the teaching and supervision responsibilities of the public health teaching team in general and particularly in the areas prevention and health promotion.
  • Contribution to attraction of external research funding.
  • Supervision of PhD students and contributions to the development of the faculty’s PhD courses.
  • Involvement in assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.
  • Dissemination of your research to the outside world.
  • Development of national and international networks and collaborations in research and teaching

You will report to the Head of Department, Ole Bækgaard Nielsen. 

Your competences

You have established yourself as a prominent researcher with solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level within public health areas like health promotion and prevention, as well as development (eg co-creation) and evaluation of complex health interventions.

You have broad international cooperative partnerships and possibly experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders, preferable including municipalities and regional bodies. At the same time, you have experience of attracting significant competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies.

You see the professional diversity of the department as a strength, and you are internationally oriented. You are interested in working across disciplines and intend to contribute with your expertise to develop the department’s research.
