The University of Surrey is a global university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit. Inventive and forward-thinking, its heritage shows a recurring theme of going its own way, doing things differently, and achieving notable results.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant (1B) in the School of Literature & Languages (within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences) to join the Digital Tools for Wellbeing with Dementia (Do Well) Study. The study is funded by the Arts & Humanities Impact Accelerator Account and will work with key stakeholders to deliver and evaluate a range of digital wellbeing activities for people living with dementia.

We will collaborate with a leading dementia advocacy organization and a key industry partner to facilitate study participants’ access to a comprehensive suite of digital wellbeing activities. We will gather expert, end-user insights into the impacts of and any obstacles to engagement with these activities and employ these in the co-creation of guidelines for the design and delivery of future e-Wellbeing programmes for people living with dementia.

The appointee will join a diverse and impactful School in an internationally recognised University with a growing global reputation in ageing research and practice.

The post holder is expected to contribute to the research activities of the study including workshop facilitation (training will be given), data collection (in qualitative interviews and focus groups), data management, data analysis and the dissemination of the study’s findings in conferences, co-authored academic publications and public engagement activities.

The successful candidate will have prior experience in qualitative research with human subjects, with qualitative data analysis (using tools such as NVivo or Atlas-ti), project management, academic publication and public engagement. The candidate will be working towards a PhD in Medical Humanities or related fields.

The post will commence in October 2023 and is fixed for 11 months. The post is offered part-time at 0.16 FTE (equating to approximately 6 hours/week over the lifetime of the study). The post-holder will be able to work remotely, but may be expected to come onto the University’s Stag Hill campus for a small number of key meetings and/or activities.

For informal inquiries or to find out more about the Do Well Study, please contact the Principal Investigator, Dr Stephen Fay: s.fay@surrey.ac.uk
