About the role

This is an exciting role for a gifted primary care clinical educator to use their broad clinical skills & knowledge eg diabetes, stroke, general internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and their empathic skills and experience to teach on and contribute to the development and delivery of the Foundation Year, specifically the MD004 Medicine Module: The Patient which makes up 25% of the Foundation Year programme. 

As part of this role the post holder will be responsible for finding and recruiting patients for students to visit and study as part of the Foundation year; delivering workshops on clinical and communication skills & exam writing across all clinical areas. The post holder will also provide pastoral and academic support to medical students on the course. 

The appointee will work under the guidance of Dr Sam Adcock (Lead for Medicine with Foundation Year), the Module Convenors (Dr Cook & Dr Shapiro), and collaboratively with both the Director of Foundation Program (Dr Richard Badge) and the Phase 1 Directors (Dr Richard Knox and Dr Steve Ennion). 

The Foundation Year (FY) is an important part of the School’s ethos in providing an opportunity to students whose background makes it less likely that they will be able to meet the entry requirements for the Medicine degree. Each year 35 students join the programme. There are multiple national drives to Widen Participation in Medicine and this plays a fundamental role in our Universities strategy to do this. The course currently has excellent progression statistics and is an attractive and highly competitive course. 

The Foundation Year is delivered by the School of Biological Sciences, the School of Psychology & Vision Sciences and Leicester Medical School.

About you

You will hold an MB BS (or equivalent), a full GMC registration and a licence to practise. You will also possess CCT and will be on the GMC GP Register and an English GP Performers List. To be a successful candidate you should also hold a permanent GP position in a local GP Academy partnership or a local partner NHS Trust.

We are looking for an experienced educator with considerable experience and standing in your field as a medical practitioner.
