Background

The CRCTU is a Cancer Research UK funded and UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered clinical trials unit delivering high quality clinical research across a broad portfolio of disease types and treatment modalities and in all phases of clinical trials. We are looking to appoint a Radiography Researcher.

Main Duties

The role-holder will be responsible for the radiology elements of the development, implementation and monitoring of research to ensure optimum safety and care; ensuring studies meet ionising radiation legislative and general safety requirements. This includes acting as an expert resource for colleagues to support them in the design and delivery of safe and valid research. They will be based in the University of Birmingham’s Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU) and will have the opportunity to participate in clinical work (0.5FTE) via an honorary contract with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust to maintain clinical experience and ongoing registration meeting the Health and Care Professions Council standards of Proficiency for Radiographers. They will also work closely with the Research and Development and Radiology departments at Birmingham Health Partner Trusts, research staff at our partner Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), Birmingham CTU, and external agencies including the NIHR and the NIHR Clinical Research Network.  The role holder will be a key contact for investigators across BHP in giving advice, working collaboratively and providing linkage to the UHB radiology division.

Person Specification

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Radiographer.
  • Understanding of clinical research and trial management methodology, including regulatory requirements, and a proven ability to apply these to the coordination of clinical trials.
  • Experience preparing regulatory and ethics submissions, grant applications, writing and/or amending protocols, patient information, trial management forms, reports and other and documents.
  • Experience preparing publications and submitting grant applications is desirable.
  • Proven administrative, project management and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and problem solve.
  • Excellent IT skills including knowledge of imaging databases and potentially image transfer solutions.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical and intelligent attention to detail and high standard of accuracy.
  • Ability to meet the travel needs of the post.
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 and understands how to ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
