We are recruiting for a Research Infrastructure Team Lead within our Health Informatics Centre (HIC), to play a key part in the development and delivery of innovative secure infrastructure supporting interesting and valuable research projects across (primarily health) data science and clinical informatics. You will support ~60 HIC experts and hundreds of end users. HIC have grown year on year for the past 6 years with significant recent success in grant awards. We have supported over fl80M of research in the past 5 years.

This is a fixed-term appointment for 24 months with the expectation of extension.

Based in Ninewells Hospital, one of Europe’s largest teaching hospitals, the School of Medicine provides outstanding medical education and training supported by world class research facilities.

Your priorities will include:

  • Leading, supporting, and developing the infrastructure team.
  • Collaborating with the team to define HIC’s information systems strategy, balancing the needs of modern open research practices with secure operation and development of the infrastructure, platforms and services offered.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of HIC’s assets.
  • Advocating for and implementing effective cross-team development and operation including automation, infrastructure as code, and shared responsibility, as exemplified by devops or site reliability engineering practices.
  • Overseeing multiple existing and new systems including a secure trusted research environment on public cloud and on-prem services. Investigating the requirements of the teams, collaborators and end users, translating these into manageable solutions then delivering these.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Someone with passion for supporting and developing a technical team.
  • Skilled in managing and delivering technical projects.
  • Wide-ranging understanding of computing system architecture.
  • Skilled at working in a cross-discipline team to communicate, engage and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders to identify issues and provide effective solutions.

And preferably someone who has:

  • A degree in relevant subject or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience/ interest in research infrastructure.
  • Experience of ISO 27001 or secure environments.
  • Experience of the software development lifecycle.
