An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated researcher with an interest in behaviour change, maternal health and eHealth/mHealth to work on the ‘Primary prevention of maternal ANaemia to avoid preterm Delivery and other Adverse outcomes’ (PANDA) programme of research. PANDA is a £2.4 million project funded by NIHR combining a multidisciplinary team of experts in haematology, obstetrics, midwifery, behavioural science, health psychology, primary care, clinical trials, statistics, and health economics.
PANDA involves five workstreams. The project is led by Prof Simon Stanworth (NHS Blood and Transplant; University of Oxford), and Prof Marian Knight (University of Oxford).
The post-holder will be based at UCL and accountable to Dr Fabiana Lorencatto, Research Lead at the UCL CBC, and behavioural science lead for PANDA.
The post is a full-time maternity cover for the Research Fellow and is anticipated to start in early December 2023 for 7 months in the first instance (December 2023 – July 2024) The postholder will be involved in workstream 4 of PANDA in the first instance, contributing to the process evaluation of the behavioural intervention, exploring feasibility, fidelity and acceptability from pregnant women and midwives.
About you
The post is offered at either Grade 6B or Grade 7. Please read the requirements for each of the grades to determine your eligibility.
Research Assistant (Grade 6B) [Salary range: £33,259-£38,466 inclusive of London Allowance]:
Applicants will have a 2.1 (or higher) in a first degree in psychology or a related subject area, and ideally also a MSc in Health Psychology, Behavioural Science or a closely related field.
They will have:
- Strong conceptual, organisational, and analytical abilities
- A good knowledge of behavioural science evidence, methods, theories and frameworks, and be able to apply this to a wide range of topics.
- Enthusiasm for maternal health, and advancing both theory and practice in behaviour change interventions.
They will have some demonstrated ability to use qualitative and quantitative methods, and the ability to develop and evaluate interventions to change behaviour. They will demonstrate evidence of being able to manage research projects and have excellent organisational skills. They will also be able to rapidly build rapport with academic collaborators from other disciplines and to learn about those disciplines.
Research Fellow (Grade 7) [Salary range: £40,524-£48,763 inclusive of London Allowance]:
Applicants will have a 2.1 (or higher) in a first degree in Psychology or a related subject area, and a PhD in Psychology, Behavioural Science or a closely related field.
They will have excellent research skills, including:
- High level of conceptual, organisational and analytical abilities
- Excellent knowledge of behavioural science evidence, methods, and theory, and be able to apply this to a wide range of topics.
- Enthusiasm for maternal health, and advancing both theory and practice in behaviour change interventions.
- They will have demonstrated expertise in using qualitative and quantitative methods, ideally primary research to explore factors influencing behaviour.
They will also have demonstrated expertise in developing and evaluating interventions to change behaviour, ideally in developing digital (eHealth/mHealth) interventions. They will have a track record of publishing research in high impact journals and of managing research projects independently. They will show evidence of an ability to rapidly build rapport with academic collaborators from other disciplines and to learn about those disciplines.
