The flooding in Libya caused by Storm Daniel has resulted in significant loss of life and devastated infrastructure, creating a crisis for the displaced people now dealing with the aftermath.

The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced $5 million in funding to help humanitarian partners deliver immediate life-saving assistance, including emergency health, water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as shelter and non-food items, in the areas of northeastern Libya affected by the flooding.

This support will respond to the assessed needs identified in UN and Red Cross/Red Crescent appeals, including for the populations who have been displaced by the impact of the flooding.

This funding will add to the US$10 million allocated to this crisis through the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), to which Canada is a key donor.

Global Affairs Canada continues to monitor the situation and remains in close contact with its humanitarian partners to assess and respond to humanitarian needs as the crisis evolves.
