Senior Research Associate in Applied Health and Care Research (Qualitative) at University of Bristol

The role

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration West (ARC West) conducts applied health and care research, The postholder will be working under supervision, but they will also be expected to take significant initiatives in their work and consult with their line manager/project lead.

We are seeking to appoint a talented qualitative/social science researcher with experience in applied health and social care research. The postholder will be part of the “Behavioural and qualitative science” cross cutting methodology theme of the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration West (NIHR ARC West) arc-w.nihr.ac.uk. ARC West conducts research which responds to the needs of local populations and health and care systems. The postholder will be working with partners in health and social care to plan and conduct research and evaluations with a focus on qualitative methods.

The post will be based in the University of Bristol, at 100% FTE with funding to 30 September 2024. The appointed researcher will be supervised by Dr Jon Banks who co-leads ARC West’s Behavioural and qualitative science methodological team.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will work across several research projects. This will involve liaising with external collaborators to design and develop high quality qualitative research studies. They will utilise a range of data collection and analytic methods to complete the studies. The postholder will contribute to the Public and Community Involvement, Engagement and Participation (PCIEP) activities and strategies for projects. They will also contribute to implementation, or knowledge mobilisation, in collaboration with the ARC West research teams, service partners and researchers at partner universities.

You should apply if:

The postholder should have a strong background in qualitative methods applied to health services / public health research, have a higher degree in social sciences or a related discipline and experience of publishing findings in international peer-reviewed journals. The postholder will have a strong background in qualitative methods applied to health services research to develop, optimise, implement, and evaluate health service and public health interventions. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skill, experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and an interest in implementation or knowledge mobilisation.
