Background

Ovarian Cancer survival in the UK is significantly lower than other western countries and it is unclear as to whether this could be attributed to delay in diagnosis or differences in treatment received. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and capable researcher to work on assessing the costs and consequences of ovarian cancer diagnosis screening pathways at primary and secondary care. This will involve contributing to the health economic aspects of the ROCkeTS and SONATA studies. The ROCkeTS study is a single arm prospective cohort diagnostic test accuracy study to evaluate existing & novel risk prediction models for pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women with symptoms in secondary care. The Sonata study will assess a new diagnostic pathway in primary care for pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women with symptoms in primary care. The post will be for 12 months in duration. The post holder will be based in the Health Economics Unit in the Institute of Applied Health Research.

Role Summary

The post holder will have a knowledge and experience of health economics in order to undertake a model-based economic evaluation as appropriate and carry out appropriate analyses. 

Main Duties

• Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods.
• Extract relevant data from published economic evaluations and other economic literature. Such data is likely to include costs, outcomes, assumptions and other parameters.
• Analyse research data as directed.
• To attend relevant project meetings with colleagues.
• Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines.
• Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research.
• Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters.
• To a limited degree, to support the HEU teaching programme, particularly in relation to the Masters programme in Health Economics and Health Policy/Econometrics
• To support any other appropriate activities that will help to achieve the objectives of the Health Economics Unit.

Person Specification

• A Masters degree in Health Economics or equivalent
• Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
• Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
• Ability to access and organise resources successfully
