The Translational Immunology Group in the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre, led by Professor Christian Ottensmeier, is renowned for its leading role in cancer immunotherapy and the tumour microenvironment.  Our group is ideally situated within the William Henry Duncan Building in newly refurbished bespoke laboratories enabling delivery of high-impact science with the ultimate aim of improving patient treatments and outcomes. We are looking for an experienced Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to lead a programme of work at the bench. Building on our published research in tissue resident T-cells in the tumour microenvironment we want to investigate antigen specificity of T-cells in lung and head and neck carcinoma.  You will have experience of T-cell biology, molecular immunology including T cell receptor rescue and cell culture. You will have experience in transcriptomic data evaluation, ideally at single cell RNAseq level. General immunology techniques such as Flow Cytometry and ELISpot are desirable. We are seeking a motivated team-player to integrate with our clinical and academic researchers and to support our PhD students and technical staff in the laboratory. An understanding of, or desire to learn, single cell transcriptomics and the bioinformatical analysis would be beneficial. There will be exciting opportunities to collaborate with industry as well as integrate within a network of established UK collaborators and with key international partners at La Jolla Institute, San Diego.

You should have a PhD degree in immunology or biotechnology and experience of cancer T cell biology, supported by publications in good impact journals in the field.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Ottensmeier, C.Ottensmeier@liverpool.ac.uk or

Mrs Lindsey Chudley, L.Chudley@liverpool.ac.uk.

This post is available from 23 October 2023 until 23 October 2026, in the first instance.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
