An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Manager to join the MRC Epidemiology Unit working on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The Unit is a department within the University of Cambridge’s School of Clinical Medicine, and its research focuses on understanding the causes and helping to prevent obesity, diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
The Data Manager will work within the Unit’s Data Management Team providing database development and operational support for epidemiological research studies. The work focuses on the collection, processing, distribution and management of data. The role will work alongside other specialists using database scripting (SQL), programming, web-technology and data management tools to support a varied portfolio of work (http://www.mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk/research/studies/). You will use database and programming techniques to carry out processing tasks such as data cleaning, verification and validation, provide ongoing maintenance, develop and deploy custom databases
The successful candidates will be educated to degree level in a scientific subject or have equivalent practical experience. Applicants will have experience in the development and implementation of relational databases and use of programming techniques. Experience using Oracle or MS SQL Server would be particularly advantageous.
You will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively as a member of a small development team and have confidence and clarity when communicating with staff, in particular when establishing functional requirements with users. You need to be organised, able to multi-task and work flexibly within a team environment.
The role is an excellent opportunity to be part of a group working at the forefront of international research and generating evidence to inform public health action. You will be able to work with leading University specialists that carry out a broad range of software development, data and information technology functions and be part of a dynamic and collaborative working environment. For the successful applicant, an individual development plan will be supported, and there will be an opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills.
This is a hybrid role with the option of working both within the Unit and working from home, as agreed between the successful candidate and their Line Manager.
