The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (M&S) seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Medical Statistics in order to grow its expanding research expertise, and to support the development and delivery of a growing portfolio of postgraduate programmes in this area.

FTE: 1.0 (35 hours/week)

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (M&S) seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Medical Statistics in order to grow its expanding research expertise, and to support the development and delivery of a growing portfolio of postgraduate programmes in this area. Based within the Faculty of Science, M&S is an internationally recognised research department specialising in the use of modelling and analysis to solve many problems relevant to industry, business and wider society. It is home to over 700 undergraduate, taught postgraduate and PhD students with an increasing emphasis on online delivery of high-quality educational programmes. It also delivers the Level 7 Medical Statistician Degree Apprenticeship in collaboration with employers from the pharmaceutical industry. The post of Lecturer in Medical Statistics forms part of the team of statisticians working within the Population and Health Ecology research group. The Department has world-leading expertise in applied statistics and stochastics and the successful applicant will join a vibrant and enthusiastic environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities.

The Department also has active research groups in numerical analysis, applied analysis, continuum mechanics and stochastic analysis. You will hold a PhD in medical statistics, epidemiology or another relevant field, and preferably have knowledge of the application of statistics to medicine and public health. Your research plans should be compatible with the aims of the department and preference will be given to candidates with research interests in Medical Statistics and/or Public Health Epidemiology, and with a track record of research outputs in refereed publications of internationally excellent quality. You will also be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as knowledge exchange.

This post will commence on 8 January 2024.
