Research Associate (Fixed Term) at University of Cambridge

Applications are invited for the post of Post-doctoral Research Associate to support the laboratory of Professor Steve Charnock-Jones and Dr Hong Wa Yung in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the School of Clinical Medicine.

We are interested in understanding mechanisms behind maternal adaptation to pregnancy and defective placental function. You will be working on our recently awarded MRC grant focusing on roles of placental stress and it’s effect on maternal physiology and whether alleviation of the stress can restore normal maternal physiological changes using mouse models (see doi: 10.1016/j.isci.2022.105911).

The successful candidate will perform molecular, biochemical and histological analyses of mouse placental and maternal tissue samples. You will assist with management of animal colonies and physiological testing (such as insulin and glucose tolerance).

You will have (or be about to submit) a PhD in a relevant subject. The role holder will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of principles and processes related to research work ideally have experience of scientific research working with small animals and. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, good organisation and communication skills.
