Interview date: To be confirmed

The Yuen lab investigates how chromosomes segregate equally through epigenetic regulation of the centromere. We use a variety of methods in our studies, including cell and molecular biology, genetics, imaging, and multi-omics analyses.

In this project, we are aiming to unravel how centromere specification is determined de novo and maintained through cell cycles and generations epigenetically. The post-holder will design, plan, execute and analyze experiments in model systems including the nematode C. elegans, yeast, and human cells to determine the underlying specification mechanisms for eukaryotic centromeres.

The post-holder should hold a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, or a related discipline, and be familiar with chromosome biology and centromere literature. The post-holder should have experience in live-cell confocal, high-resolution imaging, analyses of -omics and single-cell data, including ChIP-seq, CUT&TAG, ATAC-seq, and in managing, and in constructing antibody fragments specific for histone modifications and post-translational modifications. Experience in data management, storing, publishing and sharing data will be needed. The post-holder should be highly organised and driven, and demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
