The research group
We are seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher with a background in immunology help uncover the fundamental processes that govern the production of high quality, protective antibody responses, while preventing autoimmunity. The successful applicant will join the Vinuesa, at the Francis Crick Institute – a pioneering biomedical research institute dedicated to innovation and science.
The Vinuesa lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underpin the selection of long-lived B cells and human B cell tolerance, as well as the genes and pathways responsible for autoimmune and allergic disease. The overall goal is to use the knowledge gained to refine diagnosis and improve treatment.
Project summary
We have developed a series of novel models of human autoimmune disease by introducing rare gene variants identified in human patients using CRISPR. These models will enable understanding the mechanisms and pathways that explain the breaches in human B cell tolerance. In parallel, we are developing new tools to tackle fundamental questions in B cell biology, including the cellular origin of different types of autoantibodies, and the mechanisms that dictate B cell selection into different compartments.
Key experience and competencies

Essential
- Submitted PhD in a relevant biomedical science that includes work in immunology and molecular biology.
- Experience and knowledge in human and mouse B cell biology
- Experience in in vivo cellular immunology
- Experience of mammalian cell culture
- Experience in immunology and methods to assess immune function
- Willingness to employ, optimise and develop new techniques
