The Research Development Lead will provide effective leadership for the Research Development team and be responsible in leading the design of high quality, safe and effective clinical research to an agreed quality, performance and financial framework whilst providing a high-quality service. 

This is a pivotal role in the delivery of the Research Strategy to increase the number and range of relevant and fully-funded research studies carried out within Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) and in fostering a positive research culture. 

This is a hybrid role that will be split between working across many sites in Kent & Medway, the main Beech House office in Maidstone, and also from home. 

Main duties of the job 

To be responsible for providing leadership, support, training and education for the Research Development Research Team whilst also building capacity and capability for research development accross KMPT. 

To demonstrate specialist knowledge whilst acting as a resource and role model in relation to study design and funding applications. 

To develop and deliver local research infrastructure to support the development of KMPT led research. 

Foster good relationships with key Trust research leads/ departments/ Institutes and partners to develop the Trust research portfolio. 

Responsible for ensuring relevant local management approvals are in place and that investigators are supported in the completion of the IRAS form and study document preparation enabling them to submit to the Health Research Authority and relevant Research Ethics Committee for KMPT-sponsored studies.

Essential Qualifications/Skills/Experience 

  • Good honours undergraduate Degree in Health or Science related subject or NMC Registered Nurse
  • Significant knowledge Research Design and Research funding
  • Substantial experience in clinical or health related research governance, design or development
  • Significant experience of writing, submitting and managing grant proposals for research funding. 

Desirable criteria 

  • Project Management Training or Qualification
  • Evidence of CPD – Higher degree preferably PhD in health-related/social sciences or management subject or equivalent post graduate raining/experience
  • Track record of Publications or evidence of supporting other to disseminate their work.
  • Teaching Experience
