Research fellow: Embark on an unstoppable journey

Building on our strong REF2021 performance and in line with our Innovation Strategy, the University of Salford is investing in outstanding early career researchers. We seek to appoint an academic physiotherapist to the role of research fellow. This role represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious early career researcher to join a multidisciplinary group of over 50 dedicated researchers/PhD students in the Centre for Human Movement and Rehabilitation (CHMR).

The ideal candidate will

  • Be a registered physiotherapist.
  • Showcase a clear trajectory towards establishing a significant research and innovation profile.
  • Extend and complement the ongoing research within CHMR.
  • Possess a vision for their future leadership in research, building partnerships across public, private, and third-sector organisations, and contribution to research-led teaching.

The position will enable the successful candidate to focus primarily on developing their research portfolio but will also be expected to contribute undergraduate and Masters-level teaching.

The Centre for Human Movement and Rehabilitation, University of Salford

Why join the CHMR?  The University of Salford is one of the largest allied health education providers in the UK and is poised for further expansion, with an investment exceeding £100M in a new health campus.  This exciting new initiative will deliver world-leading facilities for rehabilitation science research, making Salford a hub of global research excellence where talented and ambitious researchers can thrive.

The Centre for Human Movement and Rehabilitation comprises experts from disciplines such as prosthetic and orthotic design, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, clinical trials, and digital health technologies.  See our website for further details. With extensive investment from the University, we boast outstanding facilities, including three human performance laboratories, a prosthetics and orthotics workshop, markerless motion capture and cutting-edge ultrasound equipment.

In REF2021 the CHMR was returned to UoA3, with 72% of our outputs, 83% of our impact, and 100% of our research environment, being judged world-leading or internationally excellent.  This outstanding performance propelled us 25 places in the Times Higher league table (UoA3), and we now rank 20th for research power.

Your Growth, Our Commitment.

The successful candidate will be supported to achieve their research and leadership ambitions through dedicated mentoring from academic leaders, peer support and a bespoke development programme aimed at providing the skills required for research leadership.

The University of Salford is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We particularly welcome applications from female researchers, individuals from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, and those who have taken non-traditional career paths.
