Role Summary

The University of Birmingham, School of Dentistry is looking to appoint a part-time Clinical Dental Tutor to teach clinical dental students in Adult Restorative Dentistry and include a particular focus on Endodontics. It would be anticipated that the appointee to this position will have had further postgraduate training in Endodontics.

*Clinical teaching sessions run through the day (08:30-12:30 morning and 13:00-17:00 afternoon). The post holder will be required to work through the day or on a sessional basis, which will be agreed at the time of appointment. The post offered will either be substantive or on a fixed term basis in the first instance. Please indicate in your application your preferred working sessions and preference for a substantive or fixed term contract. Flexibility in delivery of sessions would be desirable.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake clinical teaching and associated administrative duties as directed by the Head of School and the relevant academic leads. The demonstration of initiative in contributing actively to the continued development and improvement of the teaching programme is welcomed and expected.

Person Specification

Candidates will have full registration with the UK General Dental Council (GDC), be a good team worker, meet the requirements for Occupational Health clearance and DBS screening and preferably have been involved in Dental Foundation Training (previously Vocational Training) and have some experience of teaching.

Candidates will have excellent communication skills, be capable of adapting to diverse environments including the clinic, classroom, lecture theatre, one-to-one situations and will be able to communicate with colleagues and students at all levels in a clear, effective and timely manner.
