This post will be based within the Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York. The group has recently been awarded two prestigious large research grants, both involving randomised controlled trials, in the field of tobacco research and mental health.
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated research fellow to join our interdisciplinary research team to work across the two projects, supporting specifically aspects of research dissemination, for instance, report and paper writing, and the development of new, related grant applications. An interest and clear strength in communicating research progress and findings, including via websites and social media, will also be beneficial to the role. The post presents a unique opportunity for career development in an inspiring research environment, joining a large and highly successful multi-disciplinary Department renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to research with high impact on policy and practice. Hybrid working arrangements involving part-time working from home can be considered.
Role
As one of the senior research fellows in the team, you will be centrally involved in the preparation and conduct of mixed-methods and intervention research as part of an interdisciplinary team. A focus of the role will lie on supporting and leading aspects related to report writing, preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, drafting presentations for dissemination to various academic and non-academic networks, and supporting the communication of research progress and findings online. Supported by the Programme Lead, Dr Elena Ratschen, and other team members, you will substantially contribute to the development of content for the development of novel research instruments, publications and other outputs from the research, and be involved in national and international dissemination activities. You will use your initiative to contribute to the development of future research and contribute to and/or lead the obtaining of external research funding.
Mentorship, training and experimental learning to further develop research skills and expertise will be provided.
This is a part-time (60% FTE = 3 days/week, less FTE is negotiable) 24 month fixed term contract.
Skills, Experience & Qualification
- A first degree in a broadly health-related subject and a PhD in a relevant area (e.g. health services, mental health, tobacco or addictions research) or equivalent, relevant experience in academia or the NHS
- Competency and experience with conducting mixed-methods research
- A clear and demonstrable interest and strength in academic/scientific writing
- Interest and ability in leading wider dissemination activities (including via social media/online)
- Experience in undertaking collaborative research projects involving a range of stakeholders
- Advanced and specialist IT knowledge
- Experience with project and team management
- Excellent communication (orally and in writing), analytical and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding commitment to high quality work, a keen interest in human-animal interaction research, and excellent attention to detail.
