Modelling demand for healthcare labour and workforce in coastal communities. at London South Bank University

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a fully funded 3-year full time PhD studentship investigating healthcare labour demand in rural and coastal communities.

The NHS and NHS commissioned services are the largest providers of medical care in the UK but faces significant workforce challenges. One of these challenges is retaining a workforce in rural and coastal communities, which typically have an aging population. We are working with the University of East Anglia and Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System, to understand these issues and help find possible solutions.

This topic is currently under-investigated and there are opportunities to explore and study different aspects of this phenomenon. For this reason, this studentship offers an exciting opportunity to design a study which could range from real world insight using qualitative methodologies to using data science to understand the intelligence in the systems routinely collected data. We value curiosity and will help the successful candidate hone a research question and apply a suitable methodology. You may have a masters degree in social science, public health, data science, medicine, nursing, computational mathematics, economics, or engineering, and wish to apply what you have learned to real world problems. 

The essential selection criteria include:

• At least an upper second-class degree and an MSc (in one of these areas Science, social science, public health, data science, medicine, nursing, computational mathematics. economics or engineering).
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication and organisational skills.
• A real passion and commitment for research.
