The University has particular research strengths in areas of psychology, social sciences, humanities, creative and performing arts, education, health sciences, earth sciences, mathematics, computer science and engineering.

It is in this context that we are recruiting scholars who will join with us in our pursuit of excellence in the post of: 

The appointed candidate will make a full contribution to the School of Health and Sport Sciences in terms of a demonstrable commitment to teaching, learning, scholarship and research, and associated activities towards supporting a diverse undergraduate and postgraduate student population, and maximising their potential. 

Applications are invited for an research-active candidate with a broad knowledge and experience of human biology/biosciences. The successful candidate for the role of PDTF is required to have a PhD in human biology or an appropriate area of the biosciences and be committed to delivering research of a high quality. 

The post holder will be expected to teach on and help develop the curriculum across the undergraduate programmes (Human Biology; Applied Biomedical Health) and assist with developing new PGT and CPD provision as appropriate. Applications are particularly welcome from individuals with previous lecturing experience as well as key skills and applied knowledge of bioscience laboratory techniques. Core knowledge of a range of subdisciplines within human biology/biosciences are essential including: anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular biology, the biology of human disease, genetics/clinical genetics, medical microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and pharmacology. 

The successful applicant will join a supportive team of academic staff who work well together as a cohesive School. The School is fully committed to excellence in teaching, to enhancing the student experience, and to delivering research of the highest quality. The University is rapidly developing its research profile and has an ambitious agenda for the future.  All new academic staff appointed to the University must either already be research active at REF 3* or above level or have the clear proven capacity, willingness, and ability to become research active at this level for the next REF exercise. The successful applicant will join one of the 4 Research Groups within the School and will be expected to establish internal/external research collaborations. The University has various support mechanisms in place to help scholars who are ambitious in developing a strong research profile.
