Job Summary
The postholder will work within the Medical Education Innovation and Research Centre (MEdIC). MEdIC is committed to exploring global advances in medical education innovation and research that have a sustainable, equitable and transformational impact on society. MEdIC aims to support development of doctors with the knowledge, skills and values to address society’s evolving health and social needs safely and compassionately, including for the most vulnerable in society. Approaches enable medical students to learn the art of medicine in context, through taking on meaningful healthcare roles that directly add value to the communities and health service within which they work.
The current research team within MEdIC consists of clinical academics and educational researchers. The team is integrated within a busy, award-winning Undergraduate Primary Care department that oversees numerous placements of medical students across their six-year degree at Imperial.
Currently a diverse range of educational research projects are undertaken within MEdIC, such as coaching approaches in education, diversity and inclusion, longitudinal learning and professional identity development. Whilst the majority of the research projects arise from the innovative work of the wider primary care education department, there are also a significant number of national and international research collaborations. We are looking for the post holder to work closely with the current research team, members of the wider primary care education department, others involved in education across Imperial and with our external collaborators, contributing to a rich range of research projects. This would include contributing to study design, overseeing study implementation and contributing to dissemination. The post holder will also have the opportunity to develop their own research profile and to lead on research projects that are of interest to them and the department. In addition, he/she will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to help seek external research funding.
Duties & Responsibilities
The postholder will support the delivery of teaching of medical students, MPH students, PhD students as appropriate. They will explore new teaching opportunities and course development including MOOCs and short courses related to medical education.
You will work with the MEdIC team and with existing and new external collaborators to design and deliver innovations and research.
You will contribute to research activity related to one or more MEdIC themes of: Professional Identity & Practice; Preparation for Practice; Coaching; Digital Health & Education; and Diversity and Inclusion.
The postholder will also help to manage the wide range of research projects including: research proposal development, funding applications, ethics applications, participant recruitment, database management, data analysis and dissemination.
Essential requirements
You must hold a PhD in Education, Medical Education, Psychology, Public Health, Social Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.
You must have demonstrated experience of effective teaching of students or colleagues in research skills, conducting quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods research in education and disseminating research.

This position is part time (0.4 FTE, 2 days per week) and fixed-term for 2 years.
