Contract term: 12-month fixed term contract

About us

The CRUK Scotland Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe’s leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. Its research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability, and integrity.

Project Outline

We currently have a 12-month position available (from February 2024) in the In Vivo Cancer Biology Laboratory. This is a CRUK Radiation Network collaborative project with colleagues across the CRUK Scotland Institute, School of Cancer Sciences at University of Glasgow, CRUK Cambridge Institute and Institute for Cancer Research, London. You will primarily be responsible for research projects aimed at understanding cancer cell responses to radiation therapy using a variety of in vitro approaches. The successful candidate will have, as a minimum, a relevant degree however a PhD in a related area would be advantageous. Experience of in-vitro techniques including culture of cancer cell lines, viability assays and molecular biology approaches including western blotting would be favourable. Good communication skills, organisation, record keeping and the ability to multitask and act as a team player in this collaborative project will be very important.
