Clinical Lecturer (Academic Trainee) in Clinical Oral Microbiology at Cardiff University

We are looking for an individual who is seeking a career in Clinical Oral Microbiology, is passionate about dentistry and patient care, an enthusiastic teacher and who wants to help shape future dental clinicians.  You should be well organised, and able to work as part of a team, showing leadership qualities or leadership potential.  You will be required to take an active role in shaping our undergraduate programmes, and we will support you in obtaining a higher research degree and, where appropriate, further clinical training.

The remit of the post will be dependent on past experience and qualifications on appointment.  The expectation is that the appointed candidate will register for, and undertake a PhD, and undertake formal specialty training in Oral Microbiology, unless these have already been completed.  

Applicants will have the opportunity to apply for the award of a National Training Number (NTN) in Oral Microbiology as part of the appointment process.  Applicants will be expected to complete benchmarking for their NTN during a 12-month University probation period with a view to start their specialist training following successful completion of probation.

The nature of this post will require the successful applicant to work from the Dental School, University Dental Hospital, Heath Park Campus, Cardiff for the majority of the time.  Travel between sites may be required for training and education purposes.

Fitness to practice: candidates must have satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in England & Wales / Disclosure Scotland (PVG) in Scotland / Access NI in Northern Ireland or equivalent.  Applicants must also meet professional health requirements (in line with GDC Standards).

The successful candidate will be awarded an appropriate honorary by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

This post is full time (40 hours per week), open-ended and available immediately.

Salary: £39,371 – £73,237 per annum (Clinical Grade D1).  Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
