The Optometry Programme, within the School of Health Professions at the University of Plymouth, is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our group and be part of our teaching and research activities.

You will work as part of the Optometry team to provide innovative teaching including; the design and preparation of teaching materials, course planning and delivery, and assessment. We are proud to be ranked as one of the top programmes for student satisfaction in the most recent National Student Survey.

We are advertising for two part time lectureship positions; the first position is a permanent position of up to two and ½ days per week (18.5 hours). Experience of clinical practice as an Optometrist, and registration with the General Optical Council (GOC), is essential for this role. Non-research active applicants will be considered for this role. The second position is maternity cover for up to 4 days per week where we will consider non-GOC registered applicants with a relevent background in eye care.

As well as teaching you will be part of our Eye & Vision research group where you have the opportunity to engage with collaberative research both with the optometry team and the wider university. Non-reseach active applicants will be considered as our school has a track record of developing our staff though taught research programmes or part time PhD.

Please note, it is typical for applicants with no prior lecturing experience to start towards the lower end of the advertised scale.

The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus a Children’s Barred List and Adults Barred List check.

There is is a part-time position working 18.5 hours per week on a permanent basis and a part-time position working 29.6 hours per week for 1 year to cover a period of maternity leave.
