The ex-boyfriend of one of the world’s youngest lottery winner has been shot dead in an altercation on New Year’s Eve.

Jane Parks, 28, is the UK’s youngest ever EuroMillions winner, having won £1 million (A$1.8 million, by today’s exchange rate) in the lottery in 2013, when she was just 17 years old.

She had been tied to Marc Webley, 36, for about a year in an on-and-off relationship.

But on Sunday, Webley was shot dead during new year’s celebrations in their home town of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The incident is said to have taken place outside the Anchor Inn in the city’s north just moments before people rang in the new year at midnight.

Webley was a known figure in Edinburgh’s gangland scene, having previously served 11 years in jail for shooting a gang rival.

He was cleared of two attempted murders last year, having been accused of repeatedly slamming his car into another vehicle with two people inside.

Ms Park revealed she had spoken to Webley the night before he died.

“‘I can’t believe I’m writing this. We spoke yesterday. If I could cuddle you again and tell you everything is going to be OK I would give anything to do it, Marc,” she wrote on Monday.

“The months we spent together, you taught me some valuable things in life and I’ll never ever forget you.

“I am absolutely devastated. The best bed for you is up there, My Handsome.”

Previously Ms Park had posted pictures of them together on social media, including the picture she reposted today, but the relationship appeared to have ended when she wrote on December 17: “There’s nothing worse than being single on a Sunday.”

Scottish police confirmed road closures were in place surrounding the pub after the NYE shooting.

“Road closures are in place on Granton Road and Granton Crescent following an incident which was reported to police around 11.50pm on Sunday, December 31,” a spokeswoman said.

“Officers are at the scene and closures will remain in place while inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.”

Locals reported of hearing gunshots in the area where it happened, saying they initially believed the bangs to be fireworks.

“I thought it was fireworks at first then saw all the blue lights, ambulances and armed police,” one person told local publication Edinburgh Live.

“It was bedlam just before the bells.”

Webley’s older brother, Don, posted a picture of them together on social media after his death.

Ms Park left a single love heart as a tribute on the photograph.
