A wife came home to find her husband decapitated and his head was later discovered inside a cooking pot, police documents have revealed.

The horrific tragedy in the US led to the arrest of the man’s son, Justin Mohn, 32, who is accused of murdering his father, Michael, 68, The US Sun reported.

Mr Mohn was arrested hours after the killing in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, about 110km from the family home in Levittown, where Michael Mohn was discovered.

He was charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and possession of an instrument of crime, said the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Mr Mohn is currently being held without bail at the Bucks County Correctional Facility after being charged on Wednesday.

His mother, Denice Mohn, called police after finding her husband in the downstairs bathroom with a large amount of blood surrounding him, according to a criminal complaint.

A machete was found in the bathtub along with a large kitchen knife.

Michael Mohn’s head was placed inside a plastic bag, which was found inside a cooking pot in a bedroom next to the bathroom, read the complaint.

Mrs Mohn told police that her husband and son were the only ones home at the time of the killing.

She found the front door unlocked and her husband’s 2009 Toyota Corolla was missing, read the complaint.

Chilling video

Justin Mohn posted a 14-minute video on YouTube, titled Mohn’s Militia – Call to Arms for American Patriots, in which he held up his father’s decapitated head.

The son is seen wearing rubber gloves that were later found at the crime scene, according to the complaint.

A detective from the Middletown Township Police Department told The US Sun that Mr Mohn was seemingly reading from a manifesto as he went on a tirade, which included right-wing conspiracy theories.

Mr Mohn called his father a “traitor” in the video, which gained more than 5000 views and was up for six hours before being taken off the platform.

A spokesman for YouTube told The US Sun that the platform has strict policies which prohibit graphic violence and violent extremism.

“The video was removed for violating our graphic violence policy and Justin Mohn’s channel was terminated in line with our violent extremism policies. Our teams are closely tracking to remove any re-uploads of the video,” the spokesman said.

Mr Mohn described himself as a musician, producer, and author with seven books under his name.

His author page on Amazon says he wanted “to bring positive change to the world”.

“His life story is unbelievable and there may not be enough words to describe him, but one may begin to understand his complexity and experiences through his art,” the description reads

Middletown Township Police Chief Joe Bartorilla said on Tuesday night that Mr Mohn’s family was made aware of the disturbing YouTube video.

“I know he has siblings,” Mr Bartorilla said.

“We have told (the victim’s wife) to notify them before they see the video, or the video is sent to them.”

When asked if Mr Mohn had a history of mental illness, Mr Bartorilla said, “I’ll just take a guess, without knowing for sure, I’ll say yeah”.

“We’re getting contacted by some people in the community that know us, and know him and his family.

“And we’re hearing a lot. Obviously, he’s well known in the community just by the calls we’re getting.”
