Confusion over ‘unique situation’ of adult film star Sophia Leone’s death

Police in the US city of Albuquerque have told entertainment website TMZ that Leone’s death was a “unique situation”. Previously police had also said the death was been tested as “suspicious”.

The Miami-born woman, 26, was found “unresponsive” in her New Mexico apartment on March 1.

Sophia Leone was her stage name with her true name not disclosed at this point.

The Los Angeles-based modelling agency 101 Modeling, which handled some of Leone’s bookings, said that the adult film star’s death was being investigated as a “robbery and homicide”, The New York Post reported.

But police have disputed this claim and said a preliminary autopsy did not reveal any trauma and did not determine the cause of death.

TMZ reported that while Albuquerque Police were still treating Leone’s death as “suspicious” it was still unclear what had occurred.

“We do not know at this time if she is a victim of a crime so this is a unique situation,” a spokesman said.

A fundraising website for Leone has been launched with an aim of raising around $18,000 to pay for funeral expenses.

The family have said they were “Seeking justice for Sophia”.

“The sudden loss of Sophia has left her family and friends devastated and in shock,” her stepfather Mike Romero said.

“Sophia was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend. She had a deep love for all animals, specifically her three pets.

“She enjoyed travelling and always found ways to make everyone around her smile.”

Leone, who broke into the industry in 2014, starred in more than 80 films, according to her IMDB page.

The star told fans to “go outside and just appreciate life a little extra” in a tragic last post before her death.

She shared the poignant message to her 300,000 followers on Instagram in September, The New York Post reported.

“Go outside and just appreciate life a little extra today,” she wrote as she flashed the peace sign to the camera in the post.

Tributes have continued to pour in for Ms Leone.

“Sad, sad day waking up learning Sophia Leone has passed away. I love you baby girl,” fellow adult film star Riley Kay Carlson said on X/Twitter.

“You taught me so much in the industry early on. I hope you are in a better place now.”

Another porn actor, Riley Jean, wrote: “I’m so f**king sorry to anyone who knew Sophia. Her and I interacted with each other a handful of times but we were never super close. If anybody needs someone to talk to please feel free to send me a message. This is a hard time for all of us.”
