The role
There is a position available for postdoctoral researcher with expertise in microbial pathogenicity and/or microbial genomics to join a team of researchers (postdoctoral and graduate students) studying the pathogenicity of bacterial infections.
What will you be doing?
The expectation is that candidates will have specific expertise in the genetic manipulations of bacterial pathogens, in particular of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus.
The candidate will work within the team, supporting junior staff members to perform experimental work on both specific bacterial isolates as well as clinical samples. Examples include the construction of bacterial mutants in key virulence related genes followed by the molecular analysis of the effect of those mutations.
Candidates will be expected to be able to collect, analyse and present their data and prepare manuscripts for publication. They will also need to be involved in the supervision of junior staff members (e.g. Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students), and general lab housekeeping (i.e. ordering reagents, participating in lab tidy rotas etc).
You should apply if
You have experience in the research areas described above, and are a self-motivated team player. A drive to develop an independent career in research (academic or industrial) would also be relevant.
