About the Role
Applications are invited for a full-time Research Technician in the laboratory of Professors Andrew Silver and James Lindsay based in the internationally renowned Blizard Institute. Our group uses functional molecular genetic approaches to investigate fibrotic stricture formation and intestinal obstruction in Crohn’s disease (CD). The post will support an exciting project investigating intestinal fibrosis in CD and the clinical utility of drugs that modify the epigenome as a treatment for CD fibrosis.

About You
The post holder must have a BSc or MSc equivalent in a biological or related science. Essential requirements for this post include experience of working in a biomedical research laboratory and basic techniques in molecular and cell biology. Expertise in the generation and maintenance of human cell cultures is necessary. Previous experience in immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy is an advantage. Appropriate training will be provided where necessary. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team, deliver projects within an agreed time frame, and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.

About the Institute
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 360 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 1 year, with an expected start date of early 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 3, in the range of £30,642 – £37,348 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
