Northumbria is a research-intensive modern university with a global reputation for academic excellence. Ranked in the UK top 50 (Guardian University League Table 2022 and Complete University Guide 2023), Northumbria recorded the biggest rise of any UK university for research power in the Research Excellence Framework for the second time in 2021 and is now rated within the top 25 in the UK. At Northumbria, we embrace tomorrow. We pursue new thinking, forge new partnerships, create and exchange new knowledge, and find new solutions. Our inspirational academics, partners and students work together to tackle tomorrow’s challenges head on. We are ready for the future whatever it may hold. We are looking for future colleagues that share our ambition.

The Department of Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing (SWECW) is a vibrant multi-disciplinary community engaging in cutting-edge practice and research that works closely with organisations from the private, statutory and third sectors. Our excellent teaching reputation is based on challenging inequalities across education, social care and health and developing new generations of research informed professionals. Our diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programmes focus on high quality professional education, research and innovation across disciplines including education, social work, health and social care, occupational therapy, and childhood and early years. Our education programmes are in the top 20 nationally (Complete University Guide 2023). SWECW is also a sector leader in increasing access to evidence based psychological therapies for children and young people (CYP-IAPT) and is playing a significant role in aiding societal recovery and repair beyond the pandemic.

As Professor/Associate Professor in Health and Social Care you will contribute to further enhancing our research, enterprise, and teaching activities. This will include designing, developing, and delivering high quality teaching, undertaking individual and joint research to produce high quality academic outputs and inform teaching, and contributing to the generation of external research income. Successful candidates must have excellent and specialist knowledge of the contemporary health and social care landscape, developed through research activity, professional practice or consultancy. Candidates must hold a first degree and be qualified to doctoral level in a relevant discipline. A proven ability to deliver high quality research and teaching is essential, together with an appropriate publication profile and a track record of bidding for external income.
