We recognize that the most marginalized communities, including women and girls, are disproportionately affected by climate change and biodiversity loss. Today, in his riding in the city of Québec, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, on behalf of the Honourable Harjjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development, announced Canada’s support for SOCODEVI (Société de coopération pour le développement international) and their Natur’ELLES project during his visit at a local YWCA.

Natur’ELLES is part of Canada’s Partnering for Climate initiative, initially announced in February 2022, to support projects implemented by civil society organizations in Canada and abroad as well as Indigenous peoples and other organizations in Canada that will support climate change adaptation in sub-Saharan Africa and other parts of the world.

The project, worth $20 million over the next 3 years, will enable the adoption of nature-based solutions to help conserve mangrove ecosystems, enhance climate resiliency and biodiversity, and support inclusive and equitable governance of the natural resources of mangrove systems in Senegal.
