Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is a vibrant and innovative environment containing five academic departments: Medical Science and Public Health, Nursing Science, Midwifery and Health Sciences, Rehabilitation and Sport Science and Social Sciences and Social Work.  The Physician Associate School sits within the Department of Medical Science & Public Health.  We are investing in some exciting new positions to further align our teaching and research portfolio toward BU’s 2025 strategic investment in Medical Sciences. We are working together with the NHS and Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group to realise the joint benefit of a new workforce of Physician Associates in Dorset.

As a Lecturer on the Physician Associate programme, you will be involved in course planning for our students, course delivery, and student assessment.  You will have the opportunity to develop your own research interests and lead, or contribute to grant writing, study design and protocol development, and ethics applications. Depending on the nature of your research activity, you may need to spend time at local NHS sites. You will also contribute to postgraduate education delivery where appropriate.

Applicants are encouraged to continue some clinical work to maintain their clinical knowledge and professional registration. Job sharing options will be considered to accommodate this.

This position is available part-time for 22.2 hours per week.

You will be a qualified healthcare practitioner (doctor, nurse, paramedic, physiotherapist, physician associate, pharmacist or other advanced healthcare practitioner), with a commitment to clinical research and/or medical education. Post-graduate research qualifications, or an intention to undertake a higher research degree is desirable, and we will look to support those wishing to pursue this. You will be research active, developing and establishing a Physician Associate research programme, and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

This position does not meet the eligibility requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route within the UK Visa and Immigration service’s Points Based System. Therefore, BU will not be able to sponsor individuals who require permission to work to carry out this position.

BU values and is committed to an inclusive working environment.  We seek a diverse community through attracting, developing and retaining staff from different backgrounds to contribute to inspirational learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society.  To support and enable our staff to achieve a balance between work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.
