Job Summary
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate in the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London. The 36-month post is funded by the Medical Research Council to investigate advanced therapeutic approaches for tissue repair and in collaboration with AstraZeneca. You will be based within the Inflammation, Repair and Development section where you will be part of the multidisciplinary research team led by Dr Asha Patel.
Aberrant repair after acute or chronic injury of major organs such as the lung can lead to fibrosis, irreversible scarring and loss of function. This project will investigate if manipulation of gene expression can guide epithelial regeneration in vivo and in vitro using organoid or air liquid interface models.
We are looking for an ambitious and motivated postdoc with a background in developmental biology/regenerative medicine/pharmacology to develop RNA tools to manipulate pathways implicated in tissue regeneration that may be harnessed for wound healing.
Duties and responsibilities
- The successful applicant will be responsible for management of projects developing RNA based tools to modulate repair, with a focus on lung injury.
- Identify and develop methods for the collection and analysis of data.
- Undertake training to acquire expertise to carry out the project.
- Actively participate in the research programme of the lab, work collaboratively, and supervise academic trainees.
- You will be encouraged to present at national and international scientific meetings, publish in high quality journals, attract funding, and develop your career.
Essential requirements
- PhD in regenerative medicine, pharmacology, developmental biology, bioengineering, life sciences or another relevant field.
- Practical experience in mammalian cell culture and/or in vivo training.
- Some experience in microscopy, image analysis, flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques (e.g., ELISA) and/or histology.
- Research experience and knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of wound healing/ repair, stem cell or developmental biology.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Ability to work within a diverse team.
