Canada has announced an allocation of $127,750,000 for development programming in the Caribbean and globally. This funding is being distributed as follows:

Climate Resilience Execution Agency of Dominica (CREAD) (2019/20 – 2023/24): $750,000 – Government of Dominica

The project aims to contribute to Dominica’s vision to be the world’s “first climate-resilient nation” by making Dominica’s people, infrastructure and systems more resilient to climate-related and natural disasters. The additional funds to continue the partnership for a final year will bring Canada’s funding to CREAD to over $3.7 million. Canada’s contribution will help implement key Government of Dominica recovery and reconstruction projects and transform systems and strengthen capacity in the civil service, allowing Dominica to better manage recovery from future disaster events.

Social Justice Project (So-JUST) (2021-2028): $12 million – Ministry of Justice of Jamaica, Office of the Chief Justice, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions

The So-JUST project will use an equitable human rights and gender responsive approach, targeting systemic change within the structure of the Ministry of Justice, courts and other agencies to improve social justice in Jamaica. Canada’s contribution will help strengthen institutions, systems and legislation that advance the rights and equitable outcomes for women, girls and other disadvantaged groups; and help improve institutional effectiveness in the delivery of justice services to the most disadvantaged groups, including women and girls.

Canada’s Global Initiative for Vaccine Equity (CanGIVE) (2022-2024): $115 million – Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) and UNICEF

Globally, CanGIVE supports country-led efforts to enhance COVID-19 vaccine delivery, demand and production with a view to strengthening health systems in 12 countries. Canada’s contribution will help expand and integrate digital COVID-19 vaccination tools and support cold chain training and upgrades as well as gender-sensitive water, sanitation and hygiene services. It will also help increase access to COVID-19 vaccination and support research to build evidence on COVID-19 vaccination uptake. Allocations announced on January 13, 2023, include $70 million to UNICEF (2022-2024) for the COVID-19 Vaccination Delivery and Demand project (working in Bangladesh, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal and Tanzania) and $45 million to PAHO for the COVID-19 Vaccine project (in Colombia, Haiti and Jamaica).
