We have three part-time posts available on a fixed term basis from 4th September 2023 to 27th May 2024.

About the role

You will provide Problem-based Learning (PBL) small group facilitation at the Knowledge Spa, Royal Cornwall Hospital, in Truro, for second year undergraduate BMBS medical students, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

Students meet in small groups to explore and discuss authentic clinical case scenarios. You will meet with your group of students for two hours on a Monday each week for 24 weeks of the year. Each two-hour contact session also has one hour of non-contact time to allow for preparation and assessment of the students.

About you

For a Lecturer (PBL Facilitator) post you will:

  • Be medically qualified
  • Have GMC registration
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Have good IT skills and be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Have experience of teaching
  • Be clinically active or have significant clinical experience.

Salary

If you are a fully qualified GP (on the GP register and GMC-registered with a licence to practice) there are two methods of payment:

  • Contract of employment: where practice payment is not appropriate.
  • Practice payment: this is paying for locum cover directly to the practice where you would normally be working whilst a PDG tutor. Paid on a termly basis.

If you are a hospital doctor (on the Specialist register and GMC-registered with a licence to practice) employed by a Trust, there are two methods of payment:

  • Trust payment: reimbursement to the appropriate Trust with the PDG tutor role included in your NHS job plan.
  • e-Claim: for providers who are attending the sessions in their own time (e.g. not coming out of contracted hospital time).
