The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Birmingham Medical School is looking for a one part time Clinical Tutor (0.2 FTE) and one part time maternity cover Clinical Tutor (0.2 FTE) who will contribute to the delivery of the Community Based Medicine Academic in Days in Year 3 of the MBChB programme. This is an excellent opportunity to join the Community Based Medicine team and help shape innovation in medical education and inspire the next generation of doctors. These roles may be particularly attractive to sessional or portfolio GPs or those recently (within 2 years) retired from General Practice.

Community Based Medicine (CBM) is a strand in the MBChB programme where medical students learn about medicine from a Primary Care perspective. The majority of the teaching that students receive occurs on placement in General Practices across the West Midlands and beyond. Find out more here: https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/medical-school/community-based-medicine/index.aspx. These posts have arisen due to an increase in student numbers.

The main focus of the role is development and facilitation of small group teaching sessions for CBM academic in-days which are based on Campus at the University of Birmingham. Clinical Tutors will primarily be involved in the delivery of the Year 3 course within the MBChB programme on a wide range of clinical subjects applicable to General Practice and Primary Care. The focus of the role will be on the delivery of small group sessions based around early childhood and long-term conditions. Post holders will also contribute to the development of the small group sessions and also undertake a full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining. This will be under the supervision of the academic team of the CBM team within the MBChB programme.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Hiren Chauhan, Academic Lead for CBM (h.chauhan@bham.ac.uk) or Dr Louise Hammersley, Year 3 CBM Lead (r.l.hammersley@bham.ac.uk)

For these roles, the postholder must be available on Fridays in the Academic Year 2023-24 to deliver teaching on-site at the campus of the University of Birmingham. Future work schedules may be subject to change.
