We are seeking to appoint a new Assistant Professor, with a significant background in medical ethics/ethics & law/medical ethics and public health who will be able to contribute to ethics teaching across a range of programmes within the College of Medical & Dental Sciences. This is an exciting time as the MBChB curriculum and programme structure are under review. The new appointee will join a well-established team of academics to support assessment design and delivery, teach on intercalation programmes and will deliver expert teaching in ethics across the programme. It is expected that the post holder will also use their expertise to advise and support colleagues who work on the College of Medical and Dental Sciences’ other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes ensuring that best practice is used for teaching & assessment throughout the College.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The postholder will:
- Work with our module teams towards delivering expert medical ethics teaching across the MBChB programme.
- Work closely with the MBChB Programme Director and contribute to line management responsibilities and personal development of other members of staff.
- Be required to work flexibly to balance academic and clinical commitments (if appropriate).
Skills and Knowledge:
The post holder will be:
- An experienced educator with experience of teaching and assessment of ethics/medical ethics/ethics & law/medical ethics & public health in a medical setting, who will innovate and deliver a first -class education for future doctors.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Demonstrate excellence in Learning and Teaching.
- The holder of a postgraduate qualification in Education e.g. PGCert or higher qualification (if appropriate) or be willing to achieve this during their first year of employment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- The postholder should possess a higher degree in Medical Ethics/Medical Ethics & Law/Medical Ethics & Public Health (usually a PhD) or equivalent qualifications
- The successful candidate must have extensive teaching experience & scholarship within these specialisms.
- Experience of using electronic platforms for assessment would also be an advantage.
