Post Doctoral Research Associate Bioinformatician at The University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is seeking a talented and ambitious bioinformatician for the Respiratory theme of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre.

The Respiratory theme is based at Wythenshawe Hospital (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) and nested within the largest clinical respiratory department in the UK (47 NHS Consultants, 13 clinical academics including six professors, two NIHR senior investigators and an NIHR national clinical lead).

Respiratory ill-health presents a huge unmet need with significant morbidity, mortality and health inequalities linked to high levels of deprivation. Our research aims to develop novel biomarker-led diagnostic and prognostic strategies, facilitating precision therapeutic approaches to improve outcomes for patients.

Our research outputs will benefit patients by:

1. Applying targeted treatments earlier in the natural history of respiratory diseases through precision diagnostics

2. Identifying new treatments through a better understanding of shared mechanisms across inflammatory diseases

The bioinformatician will work across 3 of the 4 work programmes in the Respiratory theme:

1. Precision diagnostics and therapeutics in airways disease
2. Exacerbation mechanisms and diagnosis
3. Precision Therapy in Respiratory Infections/Exacerbations

This is full-time fixed term post until 30th November 2025.
