Background

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Reader in Mental Health who has extensive academic experience in this field and can lead on, contribute and develop our current Mental Health provision and the work of the Centre for Mental Health Research,

The School has excellent relationships with external partners and healthcare providers across London and the South East, including Health Education England, NHS Trusts, and private and third sector organisations. In addition, the School is working with the North Thames ARC on research into the integration of health and social care. Embedding these relationships ensures our research and educational impact translates into improvements in practice.

Responsibilities

As a Reader, the postholder is expected to make a major contribution to the achievement of the research objectives of the School and to academic excellence at City University London, in line with the University and School’s Strategic Plans. The postholder is expected to make a significant wider contribution as a member/leader of the academic community, including taking a lead on one or more aspects of research activity.

Person Specification

The appointed candidate will have a higher degree in a relevant health or social science discipline and a doctoral degree, normally a PhD, in a relevant discipline; and a relevant teaching qualification, or a willingness to qualify. The appointed candidate will also have a record of producing world-leading, nationally or internationally excellent research and experience of teaching in an academic setting.
