Fixed Term contract up to 18 months
Role Summary
Pancreas cancer will become the second most common cause of cancer death in Western countries in the next decade. Emerging therapies and strategies to treat this disease are changing our view of what is possible and providing exciting opportunities for research.
Our team has a track record in improving outcomes through optimising care at every opportunity in the patient pathway. We also have a CRUK program grant and are studying the immunology of pancreatic cancer. Our activities are supported by one of the largest pancreas surgery programs in the UK and links with all UK pancreas centres, the Royal College of Surgeons and international and national expert associations. We have a growing team of PhD students and support several BMedSci students per year. We are looking to build the team with a Pancreas Research Project Manager to help co-ordinate/manage key projects within the team.
This post is initially funded for one year but with multiple grant applications, a growing research portfolio and profile, we see this as a long-term role. The post will be hosted within Birmingham Centre for Observational and Prospective Studies and supported by Prof Tom Pinkney (George Drexler and Royal College of Surgeons Chair of Surgical Trials and honorary surgeon, UHB), Dr Laura Magill (Senior Lecturer in Clinical Trials and Operational Director of the Birmingham Surgical Trials Consortium) and Prof Keith Roberts (pancreas surgeon, UHB; honorary professor, UoB; Royal College of Surgeons lead for pancreas surgery) who are the pancreas research programme directors.
