The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Yulia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine on the margins of the G7 trade and investment ministers’ meeting hosted in Neuhardenberg, Germany.

Minister Ng reiterated Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine as it secures its future as a stable, democratic and prosperous country. She reinforced Canada’s commitment to continue working closely with G7 partners to hold Russia to account for the global security and humanitarian crisis caused by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine and associated campaign of disinformation. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is disrupting vital supply chains and driving global inflation, leading to higher prices of groceries and gas for families in Canada and around the world.

The ministers agreed to work together to strengthen Ukraine’s economic resilience by identifying additional support that Canada and other G7 members can provide to help new businesses, particularly small businesses, to develop and deliver much needed jobs.

During the meeting, the ministers welcomed progress on the modernization of the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement and expressed that they are looking forward to a high standard, mutually beneficial outcome to help support Ukraine’s long-term economic recovery.
