The Haematology Outcomes Research Programme is an exciting new research collaboration to support and develop child health research across Leeds.  This programme, running between 2023-26, will complement the current, major capital investment in Leeds Children’s Hospital and parallel Child Health Outcomes Research at Leeds Research Centre to create a world-leading platform of academic excellence in children’s healthcare. It will also build on the world-leading Yorkshire Specialist Register of Cancer in Children and Young People, which has underpinned a major epidemiological and outcomes programme in childhood cancer research since 1974.

The Haematology Outcomes Research programme operates across the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

This post will have a primary focus in leading and co-ordinating a research programme within the field of paediatric haematology epidemiology and biostatistics.  The successful candidate will carry out research in the field of paediatric haematology specifically leukaemia, sickle cell disease and beta thalassaemia. The post holder will lead biostatistical and epidemiological analyses and will work closely with senior academic colleagues and clinical academics across the School of Medicine and Leeds Institute for Data Analytics.

You will produce high quality research outputs and submit competitive grant funding applications in relation to paediatric haematology and epidemiology. You may also have opportunities to supervise postgraduate research students undertaking work in paediatric epidemiology.

Applicants will have an MSc or other higher degree in epidemiology, statistics, health data science or a related analytical subject (or equivalent relevant experience) and experience of working in an applied health research environment or the NHS.  Knowledge and working experience of advanced statistical techniques in medical research are essential.

Purpose of the Post:

This 0.8 whole time equivalent post will be responsible for planning and carrying out the statistical and epidemiological analyses for the Haematology Outcomes Research Programme as well as ethical and information governance approval applications with the project Research Assistant. You will work closely and collaboratively with programme members, which includes University and NHS staff, and liaise with other statisticians and epidemiologists across both organisations and national and international collaborators. You will also provide statistical and epidemiological consultancy advice to other programme members. The work will include strategic analytical input into delivery of key programme objectives for the parallel Child Health Outcomes Research programme at Leeds (CHORAL), providing advice and support to the CHORAL leadership team as necessary.

You will report to Professor Richard Feltbower, and Professor Adam Glaser, co-Principal Investigators.
