This role is for a PDRA position to join the laboratory of Prof. Julian Hiscox in collaboration with Prof. Roy Goodacre and Dr. Ed Emmott. The research in the Hiscox laboratory is focused on human coronaviruses (SARS-CoV-2, MERS-CoV and seasonal human coronaviruses). This project fits within our general theme of viral evolution and host interactions in the presence and absence of medical countermeasures (MCMs) (anti-virals and vaccines). This role specifically focuses on coronaviruses and the investigation of the effects of anti-virals on viral protein function and the host response using metabolomics. The work is funded under a contract from the US Food and Drug Administration medical countermeasures program. The project will focus on SARS-CoV-2 and seasonal human coronaviruses as low containment models. The goal of the project will be to enrich coronavirus replication complexes for metabolomic analysis. These would then be studied in the presence (and absence) of therapeutic interventions to understand and evaluate their mechanism of action. You will join a multi-disciplinary team currently consisting of five PDRAs and ten PhD students investigating coronaviruses, Ebola virus and biological and chemical threat agents.
