The School of Pharmacy is seeking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Professor in Advanced Clinical Practice who is active on the GPhC, NMC, or HCPC register to join our growing and vibrant School. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who can contribute to the well-established educational excellence of the School, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. A particular focus would be on implementing advanced clinical practice and clinical skills in our new MPharm curriculum, as well as supporting our postgraduate independent prescribing programme.

The University of Birmingham School of Pharmacy has a collegial culture, and resides within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences facilitating interdisciplinary working with practitioners in Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Science, Nursing, and Physiotherapy. Our educational environment encourages collaboration with clinical colleagues, enabling inter-professional education and innovative teaching. You will be working with highly experienced academics who can support your career development.

You will facilitate teaching, learning and assessment, provide academic guidance to students, and help support clinical supervisors in practice. You will have a commitment to excellence in the development of future pharmacists. You will further enhance our national and international reputation as a centre of excellence for pharmacy education, by bringing innovation and creativity to advance the delivery of the School of Pharmacy’s clinical programmes.

Ideally, you will have experience of higher education institution educational delivery. However, experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Consultant Practitioners or similar, with proven educational skills and experience are welcome to apply.

The postholder will have a focus and desire to further develop their teaching excellence. The post will involve participation in the design, development, delivery, and leadership of a range of programmes of study with a focus on the principles of Advanced Clinical Practice relevant to undergraduate pharmacy, postgraduate education, or CPD delivery. This will involve a wide range clinical applications of pharmacy. Our MPharm programme is a well-regarded undergraduate programme, with around 600 students across the four years.

Scholarship aligned to the core research themes of the College and/or School would be advantageous.

Brief Person Specification:

  • Ideally, a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism.
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning.
  • Active registration with the GPhC, NMC, or HCPC.
