Postdoctoral Research Associate in Health Data Science at University of Exeter

These new full-time MRC/EFSD funded posts are available on a fixed-term basis from 1st September 2023 until 28th February 2025. The role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time at the RILD building at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and some time at home.

The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit two Postdoctoral Research Associates to support the work of Beverley Shields, John Dennis, Andrew Hattersley, TJ McKinley, and Angus Jones. The successful applicant will work within a friendly and supportive department with unique expertise and track record in translational clinical research. The post will build on existing work developing statistical models for improving treatment selection in Type 2 diabetes.   

About you

The successful applicant will require the key skills to manage data from multiple sources including electronic healthcare records and industry led clinical trials, to perform advanced statistical analysis, and to learn new techniques, where necessary, with support of the team, to meet the goals of the project. Further, they will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will have an interest in diabetes epidemiological research, and skills in data science and health statistics, including statistical programming experience.
