About the Role

The Centre for Cell Biology and Cutaneous Research and the Dermatology Department at the Royal London are seeking a part time bilingual study assistant, fluent in Sylheti / Bengali and English, to join this team which is recruiting to a large-scale hospital-based study on atopic eczema. Our recent family-based study has identified gene variants that are more commonly seen in individuals of Bangladeshi origin with eczema and this is a more detailed follow-up study.

The main purpose of the post is to assist with recruitment, consent, and phenotyping of patients in outpatients or on the wards at the Royal London Hospital. The study protocol includes obtaining demographic and clinical data, taking simple measurements of skin dryness, clinical phenotyping and taking saliva samples and skin scale for further genetic and biological studies. The Bilingual study assistant will contribute to research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Clinical Research Fellow and Chief Investigator. Full training will be provided.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have GCSEs grades A-C or equivalent and should have experience of working with children and an interest in atopic eczema. The candidate must be flexible and willing to learn new skills. Some experience in a clinical setting is essential. Demonstrable fluency in Sylheti and/or Bengali and English is essential.

About the School

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is part time (20 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 12 months, with an expected start as soon as possible. The starting salary will be Grade 3, £30,642 – £33,762 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
