Role Over view

Reporting to: Director of HPEC Professor Jan Illing.

Location: RCSI Dublin city centre campus.

The principal objective of the post is to further enhance RCSI’s excellence and reputation as an innovator in impactful and transformative learning outcomes across all of its’ education programmes. Underpinned by evidence-based pedagogical research, the aim is to help ensure a strong educational approach is integrated across RCSI schools, departments and research groups at RCSI. This will lead to continuously enhancing both the quantity and quality of RCSI’s educational offerings and outputs, including educational research which will be a major part of this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Strategy

Including but not limited to:

  • Support the Director of HPEC in the development and effective implementation of RCSI’s Health Professions Education Centre’s vision and five-year strategy
  • Effectively operationalise HPEC’s ten-goal plan to fully mobilise it’s education, research and service agenda

Leadership

Including but not limited to:

  • Lead regular education-practice benchmarking processes to constantly guide, enhance and innovate RCSI’s educational knowledge and competencies.
  • Innovate RCSI’s education policy, practice and excellence based on evidence-based education research.

Research

Including but not limited to:

  • Further build HPEC’s research framework and priority research strands
  • Build and develop HPEC’s excellence in research on a wide range of education including education strategies and models, methodologies, teaching modes, education programme evaluation, assessment – further develop RCSI’s core education research agenda

External Stakeholder Engagement and Reputational Enhancement

Including but not limited to:

  • Propose ways and identify opportunities to develop partnerships and networks that promote HPEC’s vision through educational innovation and research – nationally and internationally
  • Partner with other institutions and external bodies (e.g., National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education) on teaching and learning initiatives.
  • Leverage and play an active role in Best Evidence in Medical Education Collaboration and as a BEME International Collaborating Centre (BICC).

Team Leadership and mentoring

Including but not limited to:

  • Assist in the development of a highly collegiate and collaborative HPEC team environment, acting as an advisor and mentor to HPEC team colleagues
  • Assist the HPEC Director in managing the annual HPEC team Professional Development Process (PDP)

Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):

  • Doctorate (E.g. PhD, EdD) in a relevant education-related, social science or health professions education subject
  • Significant previous pedagogical leadership role(s) that have developed or shaped education provision, transformation or innovation
  • Experience in informing programme and curriculum development
  • Experience of educational research methods including: conducting literature reviews, and qualitative or quantitative methods
  • Track record in high impact education/health professions publications.

THE PROCESS:

Interview and presentation

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a formal competence-based interview and presentation. Interviews will be in early September.
