An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer in Paramedic Science to join the highly successful and dynamic paramedic team in the School of Health and Social Care.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the paramedic science programmes, which are designed to prepare students for the dynamic, uncertain and unpredictable world of paramedic practice in a modernising health service; a role which can be both challenging and rewarding.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced paramedic with a relevant first degree and professional registration as a paramedic with the HCPC.  The post would suit a paramedic with experience of teaching, supervising and mentoring students within practice and/or academia in paramedic science as well as other subject areas (preferably utilising innovative teaching methods including high fidelity simulation).

The successful candidate will be given support to further their academic and professional development and will be required to focus on Teaching, Scholarship and Student support.

The post is based at Swansea but teaching at other sites and visiting students on clinical practice placements will be required. The postholder will be responsible for teaching and or leading several modules on our paramedic programmes, along with administrative and other duties. The School currently offers a full-time Bachelor’s degree in Paramedic Science, and a work-based learning Bachelor’s degree in Paramedic Science for emergency medical technicians to qualify as paramedics.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with staff throughout the School and specifically, contribute to interprofessional education on all programmes associated with paramedic science.

The successful candidate should have:

  • A degree or relevant professional qualification
  • A recognised teaching qualification that would lead to Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or a commitment to achieve this.
  • The ability to teach and supervise students across our paramedic and other healthcare programmes, including clinical skills, contributing to a positive student experience in the School.

Swansea University recruits staff on Academic Career Pathways where there are three enhanced academic strands (Enhanced Research; Enhanced Teaching and Scholarship; and Enhanced Innovation and Engagement).

This post is on an Enhanced teaching pathway.  The Academic Career Pathways (ACP) scheme is designed to ensure that academic strengths whether in research, teaching, the wider student experience, leadership or innovation and engagement, are all appropriately recognised, developed, valued, and rewarded.  Further information is available in the job description.
